Abstract

An unusual mottle and necrotic spotting occurs in the tip leaves of some Prunus besseyi x Prunus salicinahybrids but not in hybrids of these two species that include other species. The cause of the syndrome is seed transmitted and completely systemic. The severest mottles are produced at 26C. Experiments to demonstrate transmissibility and cure by thermotherapy failed indicating that the condition is probably genetic in origin.
