Abstract

Plant genetic resources, including fruit, are becoming increasingly significant on a worldwide scale. In Japan also, the importance of genetic diversity of crops has been recognized and the Gene Bank System has been developed for crop breeding. This manuscript gives basic information about conservation of fruit tree genetic resources and new cultivars released recently from the Fruit Tree Research Station in Japan.
