Lebanon, a country about the size of the state of Connecticut, is located on the eastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea. From the rather narrow coastal plain, picturesque Mount Lebanon reaches rather abruptly to heights of more than 10,000 feet. East of the Mount Lebanon range there is the Bekaa plain, about 3,500 feet above sea level, where there is a fertile farm area about 90 miles long and 10 miles wide. Then, east of the Bekaa plain, the Anti-Lebanon range extends north and south; in this range, Mount Hennon peak, nearly 10,000 feet high, reaches above the other mountains.
