A new black raspberry named Black Hawk has just been introduced by Iowa State College. It is a cross of Quillen X Black Pearl, originally made in 1928 by the late Tom Maney of the Iowa Agricultural Experiment Station. Black Hawk is the best of 90 seedlings produced by this cross, and has shown itself to be superior to the commonly grown varieties of black raspberries such as Cumberland, Gregg, and newer varieties such as Naples, New Logan and Morrison. It has also proved to be more reliable than either of its parents in growth, hardiness and production.
