Many varieties of Vitis labruscaare weak and chlorotic when grown upon their own roots in the alkaline soils of southern New Mexico. In other areas, the use of selected rootstocks has been reported to improve the growth and yield of many labrusca varieties (2, 3, 4). In California, resistant rootstocks have effectively controlled or reduced the injury to vinifera varieties due to plant parasitic nematodes (1).
