The preference of American fruit growers for certain varieties has always been in a process of change. Rarely have such preferences been summarized and analyzed, and then usually on a state or local basis. It is the purpose of this study to provide a basis for a national appraisal of variety planting trends. To a large extent it will be qualitative rather than quantitative, but accurate to the extent that the sampling has been representative of the great mass of commercial fruit growers.
