The introduction of a new apple variety is far from a final step in the breeding program which produced it. It is, however, a sign of progress for no apple can achieve the distinction of a name in place of its original number without undergoing numerous trials. But years of testing are still required before the tree is propagated by nurseries and offered for sale as a commercial variety.
